Singapore's strict drug laws proved to be a strong deterrent for Canadian actor and filmmaker Seth Rogen, who is known to be a marijuana enthusiast.

Rogen recently shared during a guest appearance on The Howard Stern Show on Mar. 26 that the only time he took a break from smoking weed was during a three-day trip to Singapore in 2011.

Laughing about the experience, he admitted that he abstained because Singapore would "literally kill you if you smoke weed in that country."

Rogen, known for his roles in "Knocked Up" and "The Green Hornet", co-founded a cannabis company called Houseplant in 2019, which sells cannabis and accessories for smoking.

A scary walk through the airport

Fearing he might have accidentally brought some weed with him by accident, Rogen described it as a "scary walk through the airport in Singapore".

He also said, "They put a little thing in your passport when you arrive that says: 'If we find drugs on you, we will execute you'."

He was likely referring to the disembarkation card, which includes a warning about the death penalty for drug traffickers.

When Stern asked if he experienced withdrawal symptoms during the trip, Rogen said he simply turned to other activities, like drinking alcohol.

Stern noted that the law seemed to be an effective deterrent, and Rogen agreed.

"If you ever have a drug problem, go to Singapore," he joked.

In Singapore, possessing controlled drugs can result in up to 10 years in prison, a fine of S$20,000, or both.

Trafficking offences may carry the death penalty.
