Woman, 45, rescued from Serangoon overhead bridge, apprehended under Mental Health Act

A 45-year-old woman was rescued from the shelter of an overhead bridge near Nex mall in Serangoon Central on Apr. 2 afternoon.

The scene of the rescue was caught on camera by onlookers, and the footage was uploaded to Facebook and Xiaohongshu.

In the videos, the woman, dressed in a white top, could be seen sitting on the roof of the sheltered bridge.

A rescue personnel could be seen distracting her by talking to her while a second rescue personnel approached her before securing her from the back.

While pulling the woman towards the side of the bridge, the second rescue personnel had to stop and squat down midway after the woman suddenly sat down.

At least 10 Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Singapore Police Force (SPF) officers could be seen near the bridge.

Another five SCDF firefighters could be seen along the road underneath the bridge.

In response to Mothership's queries, the police and SCDF confirmed that they received a call for assistance regarding the incident at around 2:40pm on Apr. 2.

Upon arrival, the woman was seen standing on the roof of a sheltered overhead bridge.

Using height rescue equipment, including ropes and harnesses, rescuers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) climbed onto the roof and brought the woman down to safety.

She was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and was apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008.
