American man, 62, allegedly uses rock to break open donation box & steal money for food in Thailand

A 62-year-old American man in Thailand allegedly used a rock to break into a donation box belonging to a social welfare foundation and stole money from it.

The man was apprehended near the Pattaya City Police Station at 2:30am on Apr. 2, according to Khaosod English.

Photos showed the metal donation box with a huge dent and an opening presumably used by the man to take the money.

Another photo showed two officers with a shirtless man standing over an open luggage filled with clothes.

Lost his card

The man later claimed that he had lost his ATM card and had no money.

Saying he was extremely hungry, he admitted to taking the money from the donation box to buy food.

The police found 100 baht and 20 baht bills, along with foreign currency, in his wallet.

The authorities have detained him for further investigation.
