Male driver, 33, allegedly reverses car into female pedestrian, 43, at Boon Lay car park, assisting police in investigations
Both parties lack situational awareness?
A 43-year-old female pedestrian was apparently hit by a reversing car in Boon Lay and a 33-year old male car driver is assisting the police in investigations.
The police said they were alerted to the accident along the service road of Tradehub 21 on Mar. 29 at about 12:55pm.
What video showed
Video footage put up by the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page showed a woman walking in a car park and into a lot.
She appeared to have been looking down at her phone.
The footage was taken from the rear camera of the car.
The car then reversed into the parking lot and hit the woman just as she stopped walking and appeared to be standing with her back to the vehicle.
She could be seen falling to the ground.
Members of the public were then seen rushing to help the woman.
The police said the woman sought medical attention at a hospital on her own.
Reactions
Reactions to the video were divided.
Some accused the woman of lacking situational awareness as she was focused on her phone.
However, others accused the driver of trying to defend or exonerate himself by making the footage public in the first place, as it showed that the woman might have been occupied at the time of the incident.
Commenters also noted that motorists ought to keep a lookout for pedestrians, even in such circumstances.
