South Korea's Constitutional Court is set to deliver its ruling on President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment this Friday, Apr. 4.

The verdict will be delivered at 11am (local time) from the court, and live broadcast of the session will be permitted, South Korean media Yonhap reported.

The court session will also be open to members of the public.

Botched imposition of martial law

South Korea National Assembly voted to impeach Yoon on Dec. 14, 2024, over his botched imposition of martial law.

After the vote, the Constitutional Court had six months to rule whether to remove Yoon or reinstate him.

The court wrapped up arguments on Feb. 25, where Yoon said he declared martial law to eradicate "anti-state" sentiment but did not intend to fully impose the military rule.

The Constitutional Court continued deliberations on Yoon's impeachment for over a month.

According to South Korea's constitution, Yoon can only be ousted when at least six or more judges agree to remove him from office, Reuters reported.

The police previously said they would deploy about 14,000 riot police officers in Seoul on the day of the ruling.

An official cited by The Korea Times said that schools, one subway station, one gas station, and four construction sites near the court will all cease operations on the day of the ruling.

Access to rooftops of 22 buildings within the vicinity will also be restricted.
