A 24-year-old motorcyclist was sent to hospital after a car apparently ran a red light at a Sengkang junction on Feb. 23, collided with him and sent him flying.

The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Mothership that they were alerted to the accident at the junction of Sengkang Road and Compassvale Bow at around 2:50pm on Feb. 23.

The accident involved a car and a motorcycle, police said.

The accident

A road user surnamed Chen (transliteration) told Shin Min Daily News that he was driving to meet a friend for tea, and was waiting at the junction to turn right when the accident took place.

"While waiting at the traffic light, I heard a loud crash, and realised an accident had happened in front," said Chen.

Based on Chen's dashcam footage, the traffic light had turned green for right-turning vehicles in his lane.

The motorcyclist in front of Chen proceeded to make the turn, but was hit by a black car going straight in the opposite direction.

He was flung off his motorcycle from the impact, before landing on the road.

While passing by, Chen said he saw the driver of the black car alight to offer assistance to the fallen rider.

About 10 minutes later, Chen returned to the scene and saw the motorcyclist clutching his abdomen with a pained expression.

Chen stopped to exchange contacts with the man and provide him with the dashcam video.

That night, when Chen texted the rider to express his concern, the man replied that his injuries were not serious and he did not sustain any fractures.

Driver, 63, assisting with investigations

Police told Mothership that a 24-year-old male motorcyclist was conveyed conscious to the hospital.

SCDF said he was sent to Sengkang General Hospital.

A 63-year-old male car driver is assisting with investigations, police said.

Police investigations are ongoing.
