The skeletal remains of a 27-year-old Indonesian woman have been found after she was reported missing over a year ago.
When she was discovered on Feb. 10, 2025, Feni Ere was already reduced to skeleton, Indonesian media Kompas and Tribun News reported.
Her remains were found with a cloth around her mouth in Battang Barat Village in South Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Reported missing on Jan. 27, 2024
Feni, a car salesperson, was reported missing without a trace by her family on Jan. 27, 2024.
The 27-year-old reportedly lived alone in Palopo, while her parents lived in North Luwu Regency.
The two areas are about 155km, or a four-hour drive, apart.
When Feni disappeared, her father, Parman, tried various ways to find his daughter, including reporting to the police and searching in other regencies.
Parman suspected that his daughter might have met with a tragic end when he went to his daughter's residence and found the door locked.
He broke down the door but did not find his daughter.
Instead, he found "a lot of blood" in her room.
Car found on Jul. 18, 2024
Feni's car, which was also missing in January, was later found in an empty house in Makassar on Jul. 18, 2024, Tribun News reported.
Makassar is approximately eight hours away from Palopo, where Feni lived.
The resident security guard became suspicious when they noticed a Honda Brio car parked in the empty house for two months and reported the matter to the police.
Skeleton found on Feb. 10, 2025
After disappearing for about a year, Feni's skeleton was found on Feb. 10, 2025, with her mouth tied.
Initially, the police conducting the investigation had difficulty identifying the victim.
Autopsy examinations and DNA tests were later carried out by matching samples from families who felt they had lost their family members.
However, several pieces of evidence, including the arrangement of the teeth, as well as accessories worn by the victim, indicated that the skeleton belonged to Feni.
The victim was later confirmed to be Feni after a series of examinations were conducted.
Buried in grandmother's hometown
Feni's body was handed to her family on Feb. 20, 2025, on the day of her 28th birthday.
Her family burst into tears when the casket containing her remains arrived at the funeral home.
Feni was buried in her grandmother's hometown in Pantiland, Luwu Regency, on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The police are investigating the case as murder.
