A primary school-going girl in Singapore has been praised for being a Good Samaritan after she was seen picking up a piece of rock or concrete debris off the road with her bare hands and bringing it to the sidewalk.

A video of the incident, believed to have been shot at Lorong 6 Toa Payoh, was posted online.

The rock could be seen near the centre of the left-most and middle lanes.

Several vehicles drove past the piece of debris without running over it.

The girl, dressed in school uniform, could be seen attempting to run onto the road, before hesitating and returning to the sidewalk.

She was apparently avoiding a car that then drove past.

The girl then made a run for it again when the road was clear.

She then got to the piece of debris, picked it up with both hands with some effort, and made it back safely to the sidewalk.

As the video panned to the sidewalk, it appeared that she was with an adult and another girl at the time.

Reactions

The video elicited praise for the girl's actions.

While some were critical about leaving such a task to a child, others said at least the girl was supervised by an adult.

Others, however, retorted that the adult should have been the one on the road.

Commenters who praised the girl's actions wrote that debris on the road posed a risk to motorcyclists, but could also damage other four-wheeled vehicles.

Some speculated that such debris might have fallen off a tipper truck carrying construction material.
