Visitors to South Korea can now submit electronic arrival cards online up to three days in advance.

Previously, foreign visitors were required to manually fill out paper arrival cards at the airport for immigration officers to scan.

The South Korea government announced on Feb. 24 that electronic arrival cards have been introduced to speed up the immigration process and enhance convenience for travellers, The Korea Herald reported.

Electronic arrival cards

Arrival cards are mandatory for foreign visitors entering the country for 90 days or less.

Both paper and electronic arrival cards will be accepted until the end of the year to minimise confusion during the initial phase of the new system, according to the Ministry of Justice.

To submit an electronic arrival card, visitors can do so on the official website up to three days before arrival.

An electronic arrival card will lose its validity if you do not enter South Korea within 72 hours of submitting it.

The website is available in seven languages: Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Russian.
