S'pore man, 44, raped wife's godsister in living room while wife was in bedroom, jailed 18 months

While his wife was in the bedroom, a man went to the living room, where her intoxicated godsister was asleep, and sexually assaulted her.

The 44-year-old man was later slapped with three charges, including rape and insulting a woman's modesty.

He pleaded guilty to one of the charges on Feb. 24, 2025, reported Shin Min Daily News.

The other two charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.

A gag order has been put in place to protect the identity of the victim.

CNY gathering

On Feb. 14, 2021, the man's wife had invited the victim, who is her godsister, and several other friends for dinner to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

The man later joined them.

During the party, the man noticed that the victim became intoxicated to the point of dropping the food she was holding.

The friends left the house one after another, while the victim fell asleep on the sofa in the living room after taking a shower.

Walked out of room naked

At about 2am that night, the man's wife found the victim still asleep on the sofa.

She sat next to her on a chair and fell asleep as well.

Meanwhile, the man returned to the bedroom.

He subsequently came out to the living room to find his wife and pulled her back to the room to have sex.

Later, the man told his wife that he was thirsty and walked out of the room naked to get water in the living room.

Felt aroused by the victim

The man saw the victim, who was still sleeping on the sofa, and was aroused by her.

He then proceeded to touch the victim's chest through her clothes without her consent.

The victim was too drunk to respond and could only move slightly.

According to the chargesheets seen by Shin Min, the man sexually assaulted the victim twice while she was drunk and unconscious.

The judge ultimately sentenced the man to 18 months' jail and three strokes of the cane.
