S'pore thief steals S$5,500 from food stalls & restaurants in a week, wears face mask to 'avoid detection', gets arrested
The alleged thief, a 29-year-old man, will be charged in court on Jan. 18.
A 29-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing about S$5,500 at various food stalls and restaurants from Jan. 9 to 15.
He apparently wore a face mask to avoid detection.
He was arrested on Jan. 16.
Committed theft after opening hours
The police said in a press release that they received multiple reports of cash stolen from cash registers at various food stalls and restaurants between Jan. 9 and 15, 2025.
The man allegedly entered these food stalls and restaurants in the shopping malls during their closing hours, wearing a face mask to avoid detection.
Through follow-up investigations and using images from CCTV and police cameras, officers from the Tanglin Police Division, Bedok Police Division, and Central Police Division established the man's identity and arrested him on Jan. 16, 2025.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man allegedly entered these food stalls and restaurants in the shopping malls during the closing hours to commit theft.
The man wore a face mask whilst committing the offences in an attempt to conceal his facial features, police said.
A total of about S$5,500 was stolen from the reported cases.
To be charged
The man will be charged in court on Jan. 18, 2025.
The offence of theft in dwelling carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.
