Mercedes hits car that braked hard to avoid hitting jaywalking boy in Sengkang

A jaywalking boy caused several cars to jam on the brakes, resulting in a collision.

A Mercedes appeared to sustain damage to its bonnet.

The accident, uploaded on Singapore roads accident.com Facebook, happened at the intersection of Sengkang West Avenue and 30 Fernvale Link.

What happened

The user who sent in the video said the accident happened around 3:42pm on Jan. 14, where a boy carrying a backpack could be seen running across the street despite the pedestrian light being red.

The user said that the boy was on his phone.

Three cars can be seen passing through the intersection.

At the same time, a motorcyclist appeared to have gestured to the boy, who looked back in response.

Just then, a red car braked hard to avoid a possible collision, prompting a white car behind to do the same.

However, grey Mercedes that was cruising behind the white car could not slow down in time, causing it to rear-end the latter.

A loud thud could be heard as the Mercedes hit the white car.

The boy then hurried off the road.

While some netizens scolded the boy for jaywalking, others said the Mercedes driver should have maintained a safe distance from the white car to begin with.
