Taxi smashes into Farrer Park temple, woman, 49, sent to hospital

The temple has been temporarily closed for the safety of devotees.

A 49-year-old woman was sent to hospital after a taxi smashed into the Far Kor Sun Monkey God Temple at Farrer Park in the afternoon on Jan. 16.

Police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Mothership that they were alerted to the accident on Jan. 16 at around 2:50pm.

A taxi was believed to have self-skidded along Marne Road, police said.

The aftermath

Footage shared to the Singapore roads accident.com Facebook page showed that an SMRT taxi had mounted a kerb and crashed into the temple.

A few passersby had gathered.

The person who took the video wrote that he had been on his way to work when he saw what happened.

"I thought there was a movie shoot today... turned out that an accident occured," he added.

Temple closed until further notice

The temple also shared a video of the aftermath to its Facebook page.

It showed that the taxi had smashed through the temple's gate.

A ceiling light had been dislodged and was hanging by a wire.

Police were seen at the scene.

The temple wrote in the post that due to unforeseen circumstances and to ensure the safety of all devotees, the temple would be closed until further notice.

"We appreciate your concerns and understanding, and we aim to resume normal operations as soon as possible," the temple wrote.

Driver, 72, assisting with investigations

Police said that a 49-year-old female pedestrian was conveyed conscious to the hospital.

She was brought to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, SCDF said.

A 72-year-old male taxi driver is assisting with investigations.

Police investigations are ongoing.
