Singaporeans are encouraged to display the national flag from Jul. 1 to Sep. 30, 2024 in the lead-up to and aftermath of the 59th National Day.

The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) said on Jun. 27 that the National Flag can be displayed at offices, building premises, and residential premises during the National Day Celebration period.

The rules for flying and displaying the national flag are also relaxed during this period, as the flag can be flown without a flagpole and night illumination.

MCCY added that the national flag should be "treated with respect and used in an appropriate and dignified manner".

Torn or worn-out flags should not be displayed and should be packed into a sealed black trash bag before being disposed of.

Guidelines

The use and display of the national flag is governed by the National Symbols Act 2022 and Regulations, which came into effect on Aug. 1, 2023.

The national flag must be hung against a vertical wall or other vertical flat surface, with the crescent and stars at the top left as seen by someone facing the flag.

The national flag should be cleaned when dirty and replaced if faded or torn.

It should not be hung out to dry outdoors together with other laundry, as this may be considered inappropriate.
