Kam's Roast Express at the Ion Orchard food court will close down at the end of June 2026.
This was announced by Robert Chua, who serves as the executive director of Kam’s Roast after he brought the roast meat franchise to Singapore in 2016.
Chua's Facebook post claimed that the stall "has reportedly been kicked out" even though it was "consistently" the daily top three stalls in terms of sales at the food court.
Kam's Roast Express will be leaving at the end of the month, he added.
He also wrote in his post put up at 2:17am on Jun. 2: "What makes this even more concerning is that we had agreed to their last offer and signed our acceptance. However, after about a month, they rejected our acceptance instead."
"I’m disappointed to see that some F&B operators act in bad faith toward tenants - through unreasonable demand, interference and bullying. A top-performing stall being removed and an accepted offer being rejected doesn’t make business sense," Chua also wrote.
He also wrote that his group will not work with Food Republic and BreadTalk in the future.
Food Opera at Ion Orchard is a Food Republic food court.
Food Republic is run by the BreadTalk group.
The remainder of Chua's post read:
"Mall owners and management should take tenant treatment seriously. If there are executives who support unfair control or pressure on tenants, they should be held accountable—including being removed from decision-making, or fired."
"I will be sharing my concerns and the key facts soon. I hope the Food Court Operator will respond after reviewing what has happened."
"I have decided that my F&B Group of companies will in future not do business with Food Republic and it's parent company BreadTalk. We will have Kam's Roast and Ju Xing Fish continue to fullfil our commitment in Raffles City till end of its agreed Contract but will not renew after the Contract expires in two years."
In response to Mothership's queries, a BreadTalk spokesperson said:
We value our partner's feedback and support over the years. Kam's Roast was offered a renewal at prevailing market rates and was given the first right of refusal. However, both parties were ultimately unable to reach an agreement on the commercial terms.
