A 52-year-old Singaporean man was carried down a mountain in Malaysia after he fractured his right arm in a fall while descending.
The incident occurred on May 30 morning at Gunung Datuk in Negeri Sembilan, Bernama reported.
Transported down on stretcher
In a Facebook post by the Negeri Sembilan City Fire and Rescue Station, emergency responders and other hikers were seen transporting the man on a stretcher.
At one point, the man was covered in what appeared to be a thermal blanket.
He was believed to have fallen at a rocky area near the summit staircase while descending the mountain.
He suffered a fracture on his right arm.
He was among 11 hikers taking part in a climb to the summit of Gunung Datuk.
Two local mountain guides accompanied the group.
Morning call for assistance
According to officials, local emergency responders received a call for assistance at about 10:29am.
Emergency responders apparently hiked about 2km from the foot of the mountain to the man’s location.
The man was transported to a local hospital, and the rescue operation, which involved five emergency personnel, concluded at about 2:28pm.
885m above sea level
According to Free Malaysia Today, Gunung Datuk is about 885m above sea level.
It has a peak defined by a cluster of massive granite boulders.
Hikers would need to climb a series of near-vertical steel ladders anchored directly onto the rocks.
Local folklore indicates that a large depression on one of the highest boulders bears the footprint of a Malay warrior known as Hang Tuah.
Tuah was apparently reputed to be able to leap from mountain to mountain.
