Australian yoghurt chain Yo-Chi opens 2nd outlet at Star Vista, 1st person in queue from 8:30am

Popular Australian frozen yoghurt chain Yo-Chi has expanded its Singapore presence with a second outlet at The Star Vista, which opened on May 23.

Located at the basement level of the mall, the store takes over the space formerly occupied by the now-defunct Japanese restaurant Itacho Sushi, and arrives less than a year after the brand's Singapore debut at Orchard Central.

Started queueing from 8:30am

Though doors officially opened at 11am, some had turned up as early as 8:30am to grab a spot in the queue.

By the time Mothership swung by at around 9:45am, queue poles were already in place and a line had formed outside the entrance.

The first two in the queue had been there since 8:30am.

One of them, who cheerfully declared herself "the biggest fan [of Yo-Chi] in the world", said she made the wait work by catching up on work at the same time.

The second group in the queue arrived a little later, around 9am.

"We thought we would just take the opportunity to come, because [it's] Saturday [and we had] nothing better to do also," they said, adding that they also had their sights set on snagging a seat inside the store.

Founded in Melbourne in 2012, Yo-Chi now has over 56 stores across Australia.

The brand is known for its self-serve, pay-by-weight format — a concept that carries over to its latest Singapore outpost.

The Star Vista outlet also features a custom mural and a rendition of the brand's beloved mascot, Yo-Chi Bear, both created by local artist duo Ripple Root.

As with its other locations, guests can swirl their choice of frozen yoghurt from 10 available flavour, before loading up on toppings ranging from fresh fruit and sauces to crunchy bits and other sweet additions.

The yoghurt bowls are then charged based on weight at S$3.50 per 100g.
