A 42-year-old teacher in Malaysia has pleaded not guilty to five charges linked to the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old male student.

According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), the woman entered her plea at the Sessions Court in Seremban on May 22 after the charges were read before Judge Siti Aishah Ab Rashid.

The teacher, identified by The Sun as Nurul Asyikin Sutan Shahril, allegedly committed offences involving the teenager between Sep. 2025 and Apr. 2026.

Accused of sexual assault under tree and at house

According to The Sun, the teacher allegedly committed two acts of sexual assault under a tree outside an apartment in Seremban between Sep. 12 and 20, 2025.

She was also accused of allegedly committing a similar act against the same student at a house on Apr. 7, 2026.

The charges were filed under Malaysia’s Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years' imprisonment and caning upon conviction.

The teacher also faces an additional charge for carnal intercourse against the order of nature, according to Free Malaysia Today.

Allegedly sent indecent images via WhatsApp

According to The Sun, the woman was also accused of sending indecent images to the teenager via WhatsApp between Sep. 13, 2025 and Apr. 10, 2026 at an apartment in Seremban.

She also allegedly instructed the boy to send indecent images of himself over WhatsApp during the same period.

According to the reports, both charges were filed under Malaysia’s Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Court grants bail

FMT reported that deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni sought bail of RM30,000 (S$9,650) for each charge, while the accused’s lawyer, Zaflee Pakwanteh, appealed for a reduction, citing financial constraints.

The judge later granted bail and ordered the woman to report to the nearest police station monthly, surrender her passport and refrain from interfering with the victim or prosecution witnesses.

The court fixed Jul. 1 for further case mention.

Minister calls for stricter action

Following the case, the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Nancy Shukri, called for stern action to be taken against the teacher.

According to The Star, the minister said she was shocked by the allegations and urged authorities not to allow the matter to be “swept under the carpet.”

She said: “We are concerned about the incident and hope the Education Ministry, under which the teacher falls, will take stricter action.”

“They have to do something for the sake of the child involved because of the bad experience. It will ruin his future,” she added.

Nancy also said discussions were ongoing on setting up a public sex offenders registry, although she noted this involved issues surrounding human rights and personal data. She said such a registry could help institutions vet individuals working with children.
