M’sian man, 22, found dead outside shop in JB after alleged attack

A 22-year-old man was found dead in the early hours of May 21 outside a food and beverage shop in Pekan Nanas, Pontian, Johor.

According to Sin Chew Daily, the incident is believed to have involved a group of friends who were captured on CCTV drinking along a public walkway before an altercation broke out.

Videos circulating online appeared to show several individuals gathered at the location before others arrived in vehicles and confronted them.

Some individuals were then seen running from the scene, while others were allegedly attacked during the incident.

Sin Chew Daily also reported that the attackers later left in vehicles, with one car said to have reversed into another vehicle before driving off.

In a statement, Pontian OCPD Supt Hadzrat Hussien Mion Hussain said police received a report about the incident at around 3.53am.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Pontian District Police Headquarters were then deployed to the scene to carry out investigations.

The victim, a local man, was found with severe injuries to his arms and legs and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Supt Hadzrat said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, with police working to determine the motive and identify those involved.

He added that investigations are ongoing.
