Singapore Airlines will introduce a new high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi service from the first quarter of next year (2027).
The enhanced Wi-Fi service will be available for free across all cabin classes, including Economy and Premium Economy class passengers with KrisFlyer membership.
With the new service, passengers will be able to use Wi-Fi seamlessly from take-off to landing.
They will also be able to engage in higher-fidelity activities such as streaming, gaming, and sending large files.
How?
SIA currently relies on a mix of satellite systems.
Last year, it announced that it would adopt low Earth orbit satellite connectivity — an upgrade which would put its Wi-Fi speeds on par with that of home broadband providers.
Other premium airlines, such as Qatar Airways and United Airlines, have previously adopted the technology.
In a May 4 statement, SIA confirmed that it would be progressively adopting a new low Earth orbit satellite-based broadband service, by satellite tech company Starlink.
Starlink is a subsidiary of the Elon Musk-founded SpaceX.
As part of the service, aircraft will be able to tap into Starlink's over 10,000 satellites in low Earth orbit, allowing multi-gigabit connectivity.
The rollout is expected to be completed by end-2029.
