Malaysian rapper Namewee was acquitted of drug possession charges on May 14.

This comes after Malaysia's Attorney General Chambers accepted his representation to drop the charges, Malay Mail reported.

He was seen entering court in a wheelchair.

The rapper was previously embroiled in the death of a Taiwanese influencer in Kuala Lumpur, as well as drug-use charges.

His real name is Wee Meng Chee.

Acquitted of drug possession

The prosecution informed the court that they had no intention to continue pursuing the charges, Sin Chew Daily reported.

They cited negative drug test results and a lack of progress in the investigation as reasons.

The prosecution also told the court that Namewee's defence had made representations for the drug possession charges to be dropped.

She then recommended that the court acquit Namewee.

The court subsequently found Namewee not guilty and acquitted him.

The 43-year-old had pleaded not guilty to the charges, which included the possession of 1.57g of methamphetamine.

The drugs were found on him at a hotel in October 2025, where a Taiwanese influencer was also found dead.

Namewee was later implicated in the death but eventually cleared of wrongdoing.

At the time, he was also accused of consuming drugs.

Urine tests later found no drugs in his system.

In an Instagram post, the 43-year-old explained that he had injured his leg a few days prior.

"Knowing that I would have to appear in court today, I was worried that I would be accused of playing for sympathy if I appeared in a wheelchair. So, last night, I practised various gaits to try to mask my injury," he said.

He went on to say that the injury was obvious no matter how he tried, and limping felt more akin to "acting".

After arriving at court, he saw that a horde of reporters were already there.

"Since I'll get flak regardless of whether I sit or stand, I'd rather get flak while seated. It's more relaxed," he quipped.
