Malaysia police are on a manhunt for Malaysian rapper Namewee, also known as Wee Meng Chee, in connection with the death of a Taiwanese influencer in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 22.

KL police said the 42-year-old Wee could not be located after the case was reclassified as murder.

Malaysia police said they "believe Namewee is aware of the ongoing investigation, which has been reported through both official media and social media channels".

"We have not been able to locate him and we believe he has gone into hiding," KL police chief Fadil Marsus said on Nov. 4.

The reclassification of the case from sudden death to murder was due to new findings following investigations.

When asked if there has been any evidence of injuries, Fadil declined to disclose any information citing the confidentiality of investigations.

He added that the toxicology autopsy report has not been released.

Malaysia police are required to arrest any individual suspected of being involved in the offence of murder.

Wee was the last person seen with the victim 31-year-old Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin, also known as Iris Hsieh.

Her body was found in a luxury hotel room at Jalan Conlay in KL at about 1:40pm on Oct. 22.

Wee and Hsieh had spent the night together before she died, Malaysia police said previously, adding that the crime of sexual assault was not being investigated.
