A 44-year-old Bangladeshi national has been sentenced to 20 weeks' jail after he sent a video of himself having sex with his married lover to her husband and brother without her consent.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the victim, a 37-year-old Indonesian woman, broke up with him and refused to meet him.
Charges
A gag order was imposed on her identity, according to Shin Min.
The accused faced four charges, Shin Min reported, adding that this included distributing private videos of others, assault, and violating the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA).
He pleaded guilty to two charges, with the remaining two taken into consideration during sentencing.
Snatched woman's handphone
According to court documents viewed by Mothership, this comes after the man and a married woman had previously been in a relationship.
The woman later ended the relationship. According to court documents, this was not accepted by the man.
On or around Jun. 22, 2025, he visited the woman's workplace to speak to her.
He then snatched her handphone and threatened that he would only return it if she agreed to meet him for sexual intercourse.
Distributed intimate video without consent
Later on the night of Jun. 25, 2025, the woman lodged a delayed information report, and the man was arrested the next day.
The report stated that the man had sent an intimate video of himself engaging in sexual intercourse with the woman to her family.
Investigations established that the video was filmed during their relationship, with the woman's consent.
Court documents stated, however, that the man had sent the video to the woman's husband and brother without her consent, after the relationship ended.
'Disappearing message function'
The man had sent them the videos on the night of Jun. 17, 2025, after the woman rejected the man's request to meet up and ignored his threat that he would send her family members the video.
Court documents stated that the video was sent using the "disappearing message" function, where it would be automatically deleted from the recipients' devices after being viewed.
The woman was only aware of the man's distribution of the video after being informed by her husband.
'Revenge pornography'
In that regard, court documents stated that the prosecution said the man intentionally distributed the intimate images for the direct purpose of causing humiliation to the victim.
This act of distributing "revenge pornography" was a spiteful act of malice which stemmed from his refusal to accept the woman's initiation to end their relationship and his desire to reconcile with her, court documents noted.
According to court documents, the distribution of the intimate recording to the woman's family members was thus calculated to inflict such harm on her.
