A 70-year-old woman in Ipoh, Malaysia, was found dead after a 52-year-old man allegedly slashed her under the influence of alcohol.
Malaysian authorities reportedly said initial investigations revealed that the suspect was discovered with several beer cans at the crime scene.
While investigations are still ongoing, the suspect is believed to have previously received psychiatric treatment.
Funeral
During the woman's funeral on May 5, the woman's daughter told reporters that her mother's face was "disfigured" and they could "hardly recognise" her.
She said the family was devastated and still did not know the motive behind the killing, China Press reported, according to NST Online.
The family do not yet know how many times the woman was stabbed or slashed, nor the official cause of death.
The victim's daughter said her mother had lived in the area for nearly 40 years and was well-liked and known to be sociable.
She also expressed hope that the suspect's family would attend the wake to offer an apology, saying the suspect's mother and sister had repeatedly apologised.
"I just hope they can come and pay their respects so my mother can be laid to rest in peace. I also assured them there would be no confrontation at the wake.
"My mother was a cheerful person when she was alive, so I do not want any arguments to take place," she added.
