S'porean man among 10 people, aged 24-54, arrested in M’sia raids targeting drug trafficking syndicates

The other people arrested included three Malaysian men, two Malaysian women, three Vietnamese women and a Thai woman.

A total of 10 individuals were arrested in Malaysia following a series of law enforcement raids conducted by local police in Johor Bahru and Batu Pahat, Malaysia, between May 11 and 14, crippling three drug trafficking syndicates.

RM4.3 million (S$1.4 million) worth of drugs were seized, Bernama reported.

The arrested, aged between 24 and 54, comprised a Singaporean man, three Malaysian men, two Malaysian women, three Vietnamese women and a Thai woman.

First raid

In the first operation conducted in Johor Baru, a Malaysian couple and five foreigners were arrested.

They were believed to have played different roles in the trafficking network.

Various drugs weighing 19.06kg, as well as 9.01 litres of liquid drugs with an estimated street value of RM1.47 million (S$472,021) were seized.

Several assets, including seven bracelets valued at RM23,975 (S$7,698), two luxury watches worth RM40,000 (S$12,844) and two vehicles, were also seized.

Urine tests revealed that three of the arrested tested positive for methamphetamine, and two tested positive for ketamine.

Only one of them possessed a criminal record.

Second raid

In the second operation in Batu Pahat, a Malaysian man was arrested.

He was believed to have acted as a storekeeper for a drug syndicate.

About 9.48kg of drugs and 100ml of liquid drugs worth RM1.15 million (S$369,289), along with two vehicles and RM280 (S$89.91) in cash, were seized.

The man tested positive for ketamine and was remanded for seven days since May 13.

Third raid

In the third operation in Johor Bahru, a man believed to be a drug dealer was arrested together with a woman.

A total of 13.07kg of drugs worth RM1.73 million (S$555,438), along with three vehicles and several other items, were seized.

One of the arrested tested positive for ketamine, while the other possessed a prior criminal record.

Police investigations are ongoing.
