After crashing her car into a road divider near the junction of Queens Street and Middle Road on Feb. 1, 2026, a 30-year-old woman, Carrissa Loh, left the scene to have supper with her friends.
When police contacted her, she refused to cooperate and did not want to return to the accident site.
For this, she was charged with failing to drive with due care for others, failing to inform the police of the accident and failing to assist with investigations.
Loh also faced charges for unrelated incidents, including obstructing the course of justice by swapping seats with a disqualified driver and providing false information to police officers.
In total, she faced seven charges.
She pleaded guilty to five of them on May 20, with the rest to be taken into consideration during sentencing, Shin Min Daily News reported.
Lost control of vehicle
At about 3:03am on Feb. 1, the police were alerted to a car that had mounted the road divider along Middle Road, in front of a Bank of China branch, Shin Min reported.
Investigations later revealed that Loh was the driver at the time, with three of her friends as passengers.
They were travelling along Middle Road towards Cuppage Road.
At the junction with Queens Street, Loh encountered a red light.
She then stopped her car behind another car and waited to make a right turn.
When the light turned green, Loh tailed the car ahead of hers and proceeded to make the right turn.
As she was making the turn, Loh lost control of the car and mounted the road divider.
The car then collided head-first with a plastic bollard.
The force of the collision uprooted the bollard, charge sheets stated.
Left for supper, refused police's request to return
After the accident, Loh and her friends left the scene for supper, Shin Min reported.
When they left, the right rear wheel of the car remained mounted on the road divider while the front of the vehicle was positioned on one of the Middle Road lanes.
The car obstructed the right-most lane of the three-lane road.
Police later arrived and removed the vehicle.
They then called Loh and requested that she return to the scene.
They warned Loh that it was an offence to leave the scene after a car accident.
However, Loh refused to cooperate and refused to return to the scene.
Loh suffers from severe depression: Defence
Loh's defence lawyer told the court that Loh suffers from severe depression, Shin Min reported.
They requested that the judge allow her to undergo a psychiatric assessment before sentencing.
The prosecution did not object.
Loh was ordered by the judge to undergo a psychiatric assessment, and her case was adjourned until Jun. 23.
Lied to traffic police in separate incident
According to charge sheets seen by Mothership, Loh also faced charges for a traffic incident that occurred on Feb. 19, 2023, at about 11:40pm.
Loh was accused of swapping seats with a male driver, who held a disqualified driver's licence.
She also lied to a traffic police officer that she was the driver.
According to Shin Min, the pair were pulled over by traffic police for speeding while travelling along KPE.
When the traffic police signalled for them to stop, the male driver slowed down and deliberately put some distance between them and the officer.
After he stopped along the road shoulder, he proceeded to swap seats with Loh before the officer approached their car.
