Some residents in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, have gained attention for renovations they allegedly made to their flats.
Sin Chew Daily reported that these modifications were said to be "illegal construction" due to the extent of the renovations.
Concerns over structural safety
Photos showed that some properties were seen to have "extra" balconies that appeared to have been added after the building had been constructed.
According to Sin Chew, some residents had allegedly extended their properties by over 500 square feet.
This raised concerns about the building's structural safety.
Sin Chew reported that the law states that all building alterations without the approval of the local government are illegal.
As such, the authorities have the right to issue notices to the owners involved and take compulsory demolition actions.
