Woman, 21, in Japan leans head out of car, hits railway overpass wall, dies

A 21-year-old woman in Japan died after she leaned her head out of the car's front left passenger side window and hit the wall of a railway overpass.

The incident, in Kasamatsu, Gifu prefecture, occurred at around 8:30am on May 28.
The woman, identified as Kokoro Matsui, was found collapsed in a parking lot.
She apparently died approximately nine hours later from severe head injuries.
Investigators believe the woman's head and part of her upper body were outside the vehicle's window at the time of the accident.
Her son, who was in the back seat, was unharmed.

A Nagoya-based broadcaster showed video footage of the vehicle taken shortly before the crash.

The footage appeared to show the woman leaning out of the passenger-side window as the car was in motion.
Authorities are now investigating how the vehicle came into contact with the structure beneath the railway overpass.
The driver, also 21, was arrested on the spot for suspected drunk driving.
The arrested person was described as unemployed and friends with the deceased, according to various Japanese news sources.
Flowers were seen laid at the accident site.
