A doctor who stepped forward to help an unconscious passenger on board a Hong Kong Express flight has gone viral online, after social media users praised not only his quick response but also his appearance.

According to Dim Sum Daily, the incident took place on a recent HK Express flight travelling from Hong Kong to Fukuoka, Japan, when a middle-aged male passenger suddenly lost consciousness mid-flight.

Cabin crew immediately administered first aid and made an announcement asking if any medical professionals were on board.

A young doctor then volunteered to assist and helped attend to the passenger.

Without hesitation

According to China Press, a Xiaohongshu user who was on board the same flight later shared details of the incident online.

The user described him as “a very handsome man, over 185cm tall” who stepped forward without hesitation, coordinated with the flight attendants and provided medical assistance to the unwell passenger.

The doctor's identity was later uncovered by netizens, who identified him as Ryan Cheung, also known as Cheung Hoi-kit. According to Dim Sum Daily, he graduated from the University of Hong Kong's medical faculty and previously worked in the Accident and Emergency Department at Queen Mary Hospital.

Doctor, musician and fitness ambassador

Outside of medicine, Cheung is also involved in music and fitness.

Based on his Instagram profile, he is also a musician with original tracks, including The Risk of Driving, which has reportedly amassed more than 700,000 streams across music platforms.

Responded after unexpectedly going viral

Following the online attention, Cheung later addressed his sudden popularity in an Instagram post titled "Thank you for the love from Xiaohongshu."

He shared that he had recently taken a break from social media due to work commitments and examinations, which gave him time to reflect on why he had started creating content in the first place, according to Dim Sum Daily.

He wrote:

“It’s actually very simple. I want to gradually share positive energy, health, and music with more people.”
