Thai soldier allegedly sexually assaulted girl, 15, during Songkran festival in Bangkok
The accused initially admitted to “having sex with the girl”.
A soldier was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in a public restroom at Khao San Road during Songkran festivities.
According to the Bangkok Post, the incident occurred at around 11pm on Apr. 14 in a restroom located in an alley beside Nap Park Hostel in Phra Nakhon.
What allegedly happened
The 15-year-old and her friends were taking part in the Songkran water festivities when they apparently encountered a group of eight men sporting military haircuts.
According to Ch7HD News, the men apparently referred to one another as “sergeants” and “lieutenants”.
The accused, identified as Pasit Komahi, who was part of the group, allegedly followed the victim into the restroom where the assault occurred.
The girl was too afraid to make a sound until 10 minutes later, when she sought help from bystanders.
The group had left the scene by then.
She then told her brother on the same night and lodged a police report.
The girl’s mother then revealed the incident in an online support page, Sai Mai Tang Rod (Survive Sai Mai), on Apr. 16.
She also spoke to Thai media about the alleged assault on her daughter.
The accused confessed
The Royal Thai Army confirmed on Apr. 16 that the accused is attached to the Headquarters Company of the First Army Area.
The army stated that Pasit, who held the rank of private, initially admitted to “having sex with the girl”.
The other members of his group were reportedly unaware of the incident.
Pasit has been handed over to the police for further questioning and investigation.
The army added that the authorities have not yet announced formal charges, as the case remains under investigation and will proceed through the legal process.
Police investigations are ongoing.
