Sony will raise the recommended retail prices of its PlayStation 5 consoles in Singapore from May 1, with the most expensive model seeing an increase of S$98.
According to an update published on the PlayStation Blog on Apr. 27, the standard PS5 will cost S$849, up from S$799, while the PS5 Digital Edition will increase from S$669 to S$764. The PS5 Pro will rise from S$1,069 to S$1,167.
| Console | Old price | New price (from May 1) | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | S$799 | S$849 | +S$50 |
| PS5 Digital Edition | S$669 | S$764 | +S$95 |
| PS5 Pro | S$1,069 | S$1,167 | +S$98 |
The increase means Singapore buyers will pay S$50 more for the standard console, S$95 more for the Digital Edition, and S$98 more for the Pro model, once the new prices take effect.
Retailers still listing consoles at old prices
Checks by Mothership on Apr. 28 found that several Singapore retailers, including Courts, Harvey Norman, Gain City and Qisahn, were still listing PS5 consoles at pre-adjustment prices at the time of writing.
Local game retailer Qisahn also posted on Facebook warning customers that prices would go up from May 1, urging those interested to buy before the increase took effect.
Global economic pressures behind move
Sony said the revised prices were part of a wider global adjustment affecting multiple markets.
In its statement, the company said it had decided to raise prices due to “continued pressures in the global economic landscape”, adding that the move followed a “careful evaluation” and was necessary to continue delivering gaming products worldwide.
The same update showed price increases across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
Earlier rounds of price adjustments had already taken effect in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and Japan in April, while Sony had also raised PS5 prices by about S$50 across the board in August 2025, making the latest round of increases its second hike in less than a year.
Rising memory chip costs
One factor behind Sony’s latest price adjustments is the rising cost of key components such as memory chips, which are used heavily in gaming hardware, according to Reuters.
The report noted that the technology sector’s race to expand artificial intelligence infrastructure has pushed memory manufacturers to prioritise higher-margin chips for data centres, tightening supply for consumer electronics such as gaming consoles.
Online reactions to the latest adjustment were mixed, with some gamers questioning why a console first released in 2020 is becoming more expensive several years into its life cycle, when hardware prices have traditionally fallen over time.
Some users also pointed out that Singapore buyers may now be more likely to compare the cost of a PS5 against entry-level gaming PCs, particularly as subscription costs for console gaming services have also risen.
