Accident in Klang, M'sia: Man, 60, dies, passers-by push his car into drain in apparent failed attempt at rescue

A 60-year-old man in Klang, Malaysia, died following a road accident that saw his car being overturned and pushed into a drain.

The bizarre incident in Jalan Bukit Kerayong, Pandamaran, occurred at about 8:30pm on Apr. 26, Malay Mail reported.

The car falling into the drain was caught on camera.

Crashed into stone structure

According to the authorities there, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was travelling from Jalan Bukit Kerayong towards Jalan Banting Pandamaran.

He was believed to have lost control of his vehicle before crashing into a stone structure at the corner of a house by the roadside.

The impact caused the vehicle to overturn onto its side along the edge of a drain.

Video footage circulated online showed several passers-by initially breaking the vehicle’s windscreen.

The driver’s arm could be seen dangling out of the windscreen as they attempted to move the vehicle to an upright position by pushing on its roof as it rested on its side

However, the vehicle fell into the drain, with the roof side down.

Pronounced dead

The man in the car was pronounced dead on-site by medical personnel.

The police said actions by members of the public attempting to move the vehicle caused the car to fall into the drain while the man was still inside.

The exact cause of the victim's death remained unclear, Guangming Daily reported.

Online discussions

The video led to speculation online.

Some commenters criticised the passers-by and said they should have waited for professionals to remove the vehicle.

Many also stated that it was a good intention that had gone awry.

Others asked if this was vigilante justice in action, as it was assumed that the crowd had turned on the driver.

Police investigations are ongoing.
