Pakistani inmate who fled M'sia prison caught by police, hid in forests & construction sites for 7 days
Recaptured.
Following a nationwide manhunt, the Pakistani detainee who escaped custody at Malaysia's Sungai Buloh Prison was recaptured by the police on Apr. 18.
Over his seven days on the run, he hid in forests during the day, then snuck into nearby construction sites at night to sleep for safety reasons, Malaysia's immigration director-general Zakaria Shaaban said, as quoted by The Star.
He also wore clothes stolen from the construction site to avoid detection by authorities.
Mohammad Hassan, 24, faces multiple charges, including offences related to sexual crimes against children, robbery, and immigration violations.
A viral video showed him running away as he got off a police truck outside the prison, after attending court proceedings on Apr. 9.
Tried to run a second time
The police managed to apprehend Hassan again after six days of intelligence-gathering, with assistance from the Pakistan embassy in Malaysia.
When he got caught, he failed to produce valid identification documents and attempted to flee again, Zakaria said.
However, the enforcement team managed to stop him and apprehended him.
Background checks revealed that the man arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Jan. 11, 2025, and entered the country on a 30-day social visit pass.
He is now also suspected of violating Malaysia's Immigration Act, and is currently being held at an immigration depot for further action.
