Some Caltex petrol stations in 5 M'sian states could face disruptions in RON95 & diesel fuel supplies
In March, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysian vessels had been allowed to pass through the strait.
Several Caltex petrol or service stations across five Malaysian states may experience temporary disruptions in the supply of RON95 petrol and diesel over the coming days, according to a statement issued by Caltex.
In a notice shared on Instagram on Saturday (Apr. 18), the company said the affected states are Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak and Kelantan.
Caltex said the disruption was caused by an "unexpected delay at the port", which affected scheduled fuel deliveries.
Deliveries being prioritised
The company said its team is working to prioritise deliveries and minimise downtime at affected stations.
It also apologised for any inconvenience caused, adding that it appreciated customers' patience and understanding while supply is being restored.
No timeline was given for when normal supply would fully resume, though Caltex said the disruption is expected to last several days.
Similar disruptions reported recently
The announcement comes about a week after Shell Malaysia also reported short-term fuel supply disruptions at several stations in parts of Penang and the Klang Valley, according to Free Malaysia Today.
Shell had said delayed deliveries and a spike in demand had contributed to temporary shortages at some stations.
Malaysia vessels previously allowed through
Malaysia is highly dependent on oil passing through the conflict-ridden Strait of Hormuz, with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim mentioning in March that about half of the country’s oil supply is transported through the waterway.
Anwar Ibrahim also said Malaysian vessels had been allowed to pass through the strait following talks with Iranian leaders, with the Iranian embassy in Malaysia later describing the move as proof that the republic "does not forget its friends".
