Three United States (U.S.) fighter jets were reportedly mistakenly shot down by Kuwait air military on Mar. 2.
In a press release on Mar. 2, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the F-15E Strike Eagles went down at around 11:03pm (U.S. Eastern Time) over Kuwait.
All crew members safe
The jets were apparently caught in a "friendly fire" incident while flying "in support of Operation Epic Fury".
Kuwaiti air forces allegedly accidentally targeted the aircraft during "active combat", which included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones.
All six aircrew members aboard the three aircraft ejected safely and were subsequently recovered.
They were reported to be in stable condition.
The command said Kuwait has acknowledged the incident and expressed gratitude to Kuwaiti defence forces for their recovery efforts and continued support in the operation.
Centcom said that authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident, adding that further details "will be released as it becomes available".
