Meta allegedly laying off hundreds of employees
The layoffs come amidst rising costs from Meta’s AI investments.
Meta Platforms is laying off a few hundred employees across multiple teams, according to a Reuters report citing a source familiar with the matter.
The layoffs were said to have taken place on Mar. 25 and affected several parts of the company.
Cuts reportedly affect Reality Labs, social media teams
According to an earlier report by The Information, the job cuts are expected to impact Meta’s Reality Labs division, as well as some social media teams and recruiting operations.
In a statement to Reuters, a Meta spokesperson said the company regularly adjusts team structures as part of its operations.
“Teams across Meta regularly restructure or implement changes to ensure they’re in the best position to achieve their goals. Where possible, we are finding other opportunities for employees whose positions may be impacted.”
Part of broader cost adjustments linked to AI investments
The layoffs come as Meta continues to manage rising costs tied to its investments in artificial intelligence and hiring specialised talent in the sector.
The company previously projected total expenses of between US$162 billion and US$169 billion (S$208 billion and S$217 billion) in 2026, partly driven by AI-related spending and employee compensation.
As of Dec. 31, Meta had nearly 79,000 employees, according to its annual filing.
