South Korean woman, who allegedly killed 2 men in motels with spiked drinks, gains 11,000 Instagram followers
Insta follow count go brrr.
A South Korean woman accused of killing two men is seeing the number of followers on her Instagram account surge by 11,000 or more after online users circulated what they claimed was her account, according to South Korea media.
The suspect, identified only by her surname Kim, is in her early 20s and was handed over to prosecutors on Feb. 19 on charges, including murder, aggravated injury, and violations of South Korea’s Narcotics Control Act.
Police declined to disclose her identity
Investigators from the Seoul Gangbuk Police Precinct decided not to publicly release Kim’s name, age or photograph.
Under South Korea’s Act on the Disclosure of Personal Information of Specific Serious Crime Suspects, authorities may only reveal such details if strict legal conditions are met, including whether disclosure serves the public interest or helps prevent further offences.
Police determined that the case did not meet the threshold required to convene a deliberation committee on public disclosure, reported The Korea Herald.
However, shortly after that decision, posts began circulating in online communities claiming to reveal the suspect’s identity.
An Instagram account believed to belong to Kim was subsequently shared online.
One widely viewed post allegedly included her name, age, photograph and educational background, attracting tens of thousands of views within days.
The Korea Herald also reported that one of the photographs was allegedly posted by Kim shortly after her second victim died.
Her follower count ballooned from roughly 200 to nearly 10,000 in around 10 days.
Currently, it sits at around 11,700 followers.
Gangbuk motel deaths
Kim is accused of lacing drinks with benzodiazepine-based sedatives and giving them to three men in their 20s on three separate occasions between December 2025 and early February 2026.
According to the police, the first incident allegedly took place on Dec. 14 last year at a café in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, where a man she was reportedly dating was given a drugged beverage.
He lost consciousness for two days but later recovered.
Two further incidents allegedly occurred at motels in Seoul’s Gangbuk District on Jan. 28 and Feb. 9.
Both men involved in those cases died.
Investigators also found evidence suggesting the suspect had asked ChatGPT for information about mixing sleeping pills with alcohol and potentially lethal dosages prior to the incidents.
Police are examining whether there may be additional victims.
Kim has reportedly claimed that she administered the substances to make the men sleep following disputes.
Instagram posts spark backlash and praise
After her presumed account was identified online, thousands of comments flooded her posts.
While many condemned the alleged crimes, others expressed sympathy or admiration.
Comments included remarks based on her looks, suggesting she was “too pretty” to be guilty, calling for her sentence to be reduced, and statements declaring support for her, according to The Chosun Daily.
Others, however, warned that such reactions risk inflicting secondary harm on victims’ families by trivialising the severity of the allegations and called the commenters out for being inappropriate.
South Korea police have administered a psychopathy evaluation during the recent Lunar New Year holiday period.
Results are expected in the coming days.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
