Additional security measures have been requested in Upper Thomson following two recent break-ins and a separate sighting of a suspicious individual in the area.

More CCTVs and police patrols

In a statement issued in his capacity as Member of Parliament for the constituency, Chee Hong Tat said they have requested the Singapore Police Force (SPF) install more closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and step up patrols.

He added that drone surveillance, including over the forested areas behind the houses, has also been requested.

Mr Chee thanked police officers for increasing their presence in the neighbourhood.

Two break-ins days apart

These follow two reported cases of trespass within days of each other.

On Feb. 17, police received a call for assistance at a residential property along Taman Permata at about 7:50pm.

Preliminary investigations indicated that an individual had entered the premises without permission and left before officers arrived.

A few days later, on Feb. 21 at around 9:40pm, another incident was reported at a home along Marigold Drive.

According to the police, an unauthorised individual had entered the residence but also departed prior to their arrival.

In that case, a female occupant encountered the intruder inside the house.

The man fled after she screamed. No injuries were reported in either incident, and there were no reports of property loss.

Both properties are located in Upper Thomson near the Central Catchment Nature Reserve.

Investigations into both cases are ongoing, and efforts to trace the suspect or suspects are underway. It is not known if the incidents are linked.

Suspicious sighting near Soo Chow View

On Feb. 24, police were again alerted to a sighting of a suspicious person in the Upper Thomson area, this time near Soo Chow View at about 2pm, according to The Straits Times.

The individual reportedly left before officers arrived. Police said they are working to establish the person’s identity.

Soo Chow View is located a short distance from Marigold Drive, where the Feb. 21 trespass occurred.

A visible police presence was observed in the estate following the report.
