A total of 17 personal mobility devices (PMDs), 12 power-assisted bicycles (PABs) and eight bicycles were impounded as they were found to be non-compliant during a five-day targeted operation in Punggol.

The enforcement actions took place from Feb. 9 to 14, 2026, Punggol Neighbourhood Police Centre said in a Feb. 24, 2026 Facebook post.

The mission was to deter illegal activities and create safer streets for residents, the post added.

Non-compliant devices

A total of 38 persons were checked by Punggol NPC officers and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) during the joint enforcement operation.

"Several offences under the Active Mobility Act 2017 and Road Traffic Act 1961 were detected, including riding non-compliant personal mobility devices on public paths and roads, riding and keeping power assisted bicycles, and riding bicycles without mandatory handbrakes," the post read.

"We take a firm stance against those who endanger public safety and contravene the law," the post added.

"Punggol NPC will continue to conduct enforcement operations with other law enforcement agencies to keep our neighbourhood safe and secure."

Penalties

In the wake of the enforcement actions in Punggol, 19 non-compliant active mobility devices (AMDs) were seized and impounded by the LTA on Feb. 23, 2026.

The statutory board had previously reminded the public to only purchase and use devices and parts, including batteries, from original manufacturers or authorised retailers.

Those who fail to do so may be fined up to S$10,000, face a maximum of six months in jail, or both.
