Chinese toddler puts firecracker in mouth after mistaking it for candy, it explodes & injures tongue

A toddler in China recently suffered injuries to her tongue when a firecracker she reportedly mistook for candy exploded after she put it in her mouth.
The incident occurred in Guangdong, China, on Feb. 21, 2026, 8world reported, adding that the mother was teaching her daughter how to play with the firecracker.
Mistaken for candy
However, just as the child's mother left her alone for a short while, she put the firecracker in her mouth after mistaking it for candy, Sing Tao Daily reported.
According to online video footage, the firecracker in her mouth then exploded with a "pop".
The impact of the explosion caused the girl to jerk backwards, and she began to cry from the pain, 8world reported.
Injuries not serious
Upon hearing this, her mother rushed out to comfort her daughter.
She later expressed regret that she did not supervise her daughter properly, news.china.com reported, adding that though the child's tongue was injured in the incident, the injuries were not serious.
