A debt recovery company in Singapore has claimed that Lao Huo Tang Group owes its client, a wholesale supplier, over S$500,000.
This comes after Stomp reported that officers from A.S.K Debt Recovery were seen at various Lao Huo Tang outlets across Singapore.
Debt recovery
Responding to Mothership's queries, a spokesperson from A.S.K Debt Recovery said that Lao Huo Tang owed their client, a wholesale supplier, "a substantial amount since 2024".
They claimed the outstanding sum was over S$500,000.
The spokesperson added that they had "made numerous attempts to resolve the matter amicably".
The spokesperson claimed that officers were met with "non-cooperation".
They said they had also visited the founder's residential premises but "were unable to meet him."
They said that it was "only after exhausting these avenues" that they proceeded to visit the outlet.
The spokesperson added: "We will continue making visits to several outlets as part of our recovery efforts.
"Our intention remains to seek engagement and resolve the matter amicably on behalf of our client."
Outlets remain fully operational
In response to Mothership's queries, a spokesperson from Lao Huo Tang Group of Companies, referring to recent media articles about staff of a debt collection company visiting its outlets on Feb. 15, 2026, said: "First and foremost, we wish to thank our staff for handling those visits with grace, patience and professionalism.
"We ask that our staff be treated with dignity and respect."
The spokesperson added: "We want to reassure everyone, especially our valued customers, that our outlets remain safe, open and fully operational.
"We look forward to continuing to serve generations of our long-time and valued customers as they gather together to celebrate with their loved ones this CNY festive season."
Noting that Lao Huo Tang began as a humble hawker stall in 2008, the spokesperson said Lao Huo Tang "grew into what we are today even amidst a tough operating climate for the Singapore F&B scene".
"We hold dear to our status as a homegrown Singapore brand. Our roots are in warmth, sincerity and family values," said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson noted that in business, it is inevitable that differences or disagreements may sometimes arise between parties.
"As a company, it is our philosophy that such matters be addressed sensibly and professionally," the spokesperson said.
Closely monitoring situation
The spokesperson added that they "remain committed to resolving the matter through appropriate legal and professional channels", and that this matter is currently being handled by their legal advisors.
"We have since taken proactive steps to ensure that the debt collection company ceases any further debt collection activities at our outlets."
The spokesperson emphasised that they will take further steps if and when necessary to protect their customers and staff.
