Duties

A Shin Min Daily News reporter visited the hawker centre and confirmed that the man in the video is the younger brother of the owner of the cai png stall.

Yang (transliteration) told Chinese media that she runs the stall with her husband and younger brother, and that each has their own tasks.

Her brother is responsible for preparing the ingredients every day at 4am and for cleaning the store and the surrounding area after closing.

She added that she was not aware of her brother's actions and would remind him not to repeat them.

Yang told Shin Min Daily News that she has been running the stall for 20 years and has many regular customers.

However, if customers notice anything inappropriate, she said they could raise it to her directly, as posting it online would affect the business.

She also acknowledged that her brother's cleaning practices were inappropriate, but emphasised that she and her husband maintain strict hygiene standards, Shin Min Daily News reported.

They will also pay closer attention to cleaning in the future.

Mistaken

When netizens first saw the post, some mistook the man for a cleaner at the hawker centre.

Several cleaners told Shin Min Daily News that they were wrongly blamed for the man's actions.

One cleaner told the media that they have separate teams for washing dishes, cleaning floors and wiping tables, and all are trained.

Another cleaner added that the tables must be wiped with a cloth and that there are two buckets: one with water and soap, and the other with clean water.
