2 crew members die after fire breaks out on S'pore-registered ship off coast in China, MPA investigating
Fire in engine room.
Two crew members have died onboard a Singapore-registered bulk carrier after a fire broke out in the engine room.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), a fire broke out in the engine room on the bulk carrier MANDY off the coast of China.
The incident occurred on Feb. 17 at around 7:35pm (Singapore time), and the fire was extinguished by the crew.
A total of 25 Myanmar crew members were onboard during the incident.
Two crew members were reported deceased while a third has been evacuated to a shore medical facility for further treatment, said MPA.
No Singaporeans were onboard.
MPA stated there are no reports of pollution and that the company is arranging to tow the vessel to Yantai Port, China.
"MPA extends its condolences to the families of the deceased. MPA is in contact with the company and the relevant Chinese authorities to provide the necessary assistance."
MPA added that it will investigate the incident.
