M'sian woman, 27, detained for eating & drinking on TikTok Live during Ramadan
She claimed to be in postpartum confinement.
A 27-year-old Malaysian muslim woman was detained by the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS) for allegedly livestreaming herself eating and drinking on TikTok.
JHEAINS said her actions on Feb. 22 at around 6:45pm allegedly disrespected the holy month of Ramadan, reported Bernama.
JHEAINS director Mohd Asri Abdullah said that police reviewed the video where the woman interacted with her followers.
"During the live broadcast, the individual was seen openly eating and drinking."
Asri said the woman was arrested in Kuala Pilah on Feb. 24.
She is being investigated under Shariah law, specifically Section 50 of Negeri Sembilan's Syariah Criminal Enactment 1992, for allegedly insulting or bringing disrepute to Islam.
Woman claimed to be in postpartum confinement
The woman was pictured on the TikTok Live wearing a headscarf, clutching a beverage, laughing while talking to her followers.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the woman claimed to have recently given birth and was in postpartum confinement.
Commenters questioned her behaviour, but she replied, "If you don't like to watch me, you can leave" (transliteration).
The video was taken down, but snippets were reuploaded to Threads.
Asri advised the public, especially Muslims, to be mindful of religious sensitivities and to uphold Ramadan practices, reported Bernama.
He added that JHEAINS remains committed to ensuring matters involving Muslims in the state are conducted according to Islamic laws.
