A 33-year-old Malaysian man was arrested after he allegedly tried to smuggle over 1,200 e-vaporisers and related components into Singapore on Jan. 28.

In a Facebook post on Feb. 3, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said the man attempted to bring in the contraband via Woodlands Checkpoint with his wife and children seated in the car.

ICA said officers foiled the attempt after stopping a Malaysia-registered car.

Following a routine check, they discovered the e-vaporisers concealed in multiple cardboard boxes and hidden in the car boot.

Officers in the clip shared by ICA could also be seen inspecting different parts of the car, including the bonnet and underneath the chassis.

They also checked the interior of the vehicle, and uncovered the full haul.

The driver was subsequently arrested.

He was accompanied by his wife, 33, and three children, aged three, five, and eight.

The case was referred to the Health Sciences Authority for further investigation.
