Indonesia is set to get an aircraft carrier, the Giuseppe Garibaldi, as a grant from the Italian government.

According to Indonesian media, the Indonesian government will allocate a budget to retrofit and make adjustments to meet the "operational requirements of the Indonesian Navy".

The military has prepared prospective crew members to operate the vessel.

According to Jakarta Globe, the navy chief said that Indonesia is targeting the carrier's arrival before Oct. 5, which is their armed forces' anniversary.

An official from the Defence Ministry said negotiations and administrative processes are currently ongoing.

This will make Indonesia the fifth Asian country to have an aircraft carrier. The other four countries are China, India, Japan, and Thailand.
