A 72-year-old man died after he was allegedly knocked down and run over twice by a prime mover in an open-air car park in Boon Lay.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the accident took place at about 7:20am on Feb. 14.

Videos circulating online showed multiple police officers at the scene.

The prime mover was seen stopped in the middle of the road, with traffic cones placed around it.

Victim was run over twice

A 70-year-old seafood stall vendor who witnessed the accident told Shin Min that he had just finished work when he saw the elderly man being knocked down and dragged under the vehicle.

"The front wheel ran over him, and then the rear wheel ran over him again. It was very frightening," he said.

He added that members of the public rushed forward to help, and that the victim was still breathing initially.

The witness also claimed he had previously seen the same prime mover illegally parked near a refuse collection point.

The injured man was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital in an unconscious state, where he died from his injuries, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force said.

A 48-year-old male prime mover driver was arrested for careless driving causing death.

Investigations are ongoing.
