Chinese New Year is here, which means Aunty Linda is back with her annual extravagant festive display.

Since 2017, the Bedok resident’s elaborate decorations have brought festive cheer to her neighbours each year.

Year of the Horse

This year, Linda told Mothership she bought a total of 18 horse figurines from Taobao to match the Year of the Horse theme.

Horses of various sizes line the corridor and are even mounted on the ceiling.

She also purchased a large firecracker decoration from Batam, along with other festive items from shops in Yishun, Toa Payoh, Tampines and Bedok Reservoir.

In total, she spent about S$800 on the decorations.

Took two weeks

Aunty Linda said it took her about two weeks to put everything up, adding that the process took longer than usual as she had been feeling unwell and was also working.

The 65-year-old works at Changi Airport.

Her son also helped her with the setup, she said.

Her neighbours love it

Linda has been known to spread festive joy among her neighbours every Chinese New Year.

She shared that her neighbours, who are Malay-Muslim, are all big fans of her decorations.

"Every year, they will look forward to my decorations. They will take photos and videos and share them with others.

They will also help to clean and wash the corridor for me before [I start] decorating."

Linda said that she feels grateful to have such supportive neighbours.

"We are very, very close," she added.

Her neighbour's daughter Nadirah helps to take photos of the decoration each year.
