Another five drivers were recently caught in the past two weeks for providing illegal cross-border ride-hailing services at land checkpoints.
All their vehicles were impounded.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced this in a Feb. 27, 2026, Facebook post, adding that this came amid regular tip-offs from the National Private Hire Vehicles Association and National Taxi Association.
185 vehicles impounded since July 2025
Since July 2025, LTA has checked more than 3,200 vehicles and impounded 185 vehicles, said Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling.

Safeguard commuter safety, livelihoods of drivers
Sun wrote in a Feb. 27 Facebook post that the recent enforcement efforts are to "safeguard commuter safety and livelihoods" of drivers.

Commuters are advised to only use licensed cross-border taxi services, said Sun, adding that they "offer a convenient and safe mode of transport" for cross-border travel needs.
"We will continue to work closely with Malaysian authorities to enhance these services," she said.
Penalties
Drivers caught providing illegal ride-hailing services face up to S$3,000 fines and/or six months' jail, and possible vehicle forfeiture.
Members of the public who spot illegal ride-hailing services can report them online.
