Three people were sent to the hospital after a fire broke out in Hougang on Feb. 16, 2026.

This comes after a gondola used by a contractor caught fire, said chairman of the People's Action Party's (PAP) Bedok Reservoir-Punggol branch Adrian Ang in a Facebook post on the same day.

The fire was confined to the void deck, said Ang, adding that it did not spread to the residential units above.

Fight fire

Noting that several residents who required medical assistance due to smoke inhalation were sent to the hospital, Ang wished them "a smooth and speedy recovery", adding that he will be visiting them at their homes soon.

He said: "I am relieved to share that no flat units were severely affected by the incident, and the situation was brought under control promptly.

"My thanks go out to the two Samaritans who stepped forward to help fight the fire."

Ang added: "I have spoken with the AHTC officer in charge, who was present when I arrived at the scene, and I am glad to hear that professionals will be deployed to assess the situation thoroughly."

"Safety remains our top priority, and we will continue to follow up closely to ensure the area is safe for our residents and the wider community," said Ang.

Construction materials

Responding to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed being alerted at about 12:45pm on Feb. 16 to a fire at Block 418 Hougang Avenue 8, which involved construction materials at the void deck of the affected block.

Before SCDF's arrival, the Police and members of the public extinguished the fire using fire extinguishers.

In addition, three persons were assessed for smoke inhalation and conveyed to Singapore General Hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
